Wood garage doors can be a poor choice depending on where you live and what the normal environmental conditions are. Wood is susceptible to moisture. As such, if you live in an area of high humidity or moisture, you may have various problems with your doors. Problems such as expansion and warping may cause the door to bind and not open and close properly. Also, wood garage doors in a humid or wet environment are prone to rotting and need to be constantly maintained to prevent this situation from occurring. Another evironmental condition that may cause you to reconsider wooden doors is extreme cold. Wood is a decent insulator, but in the case of extreme cold the wood in your doors is going to not be enough to provide any sort of insulating value to your home or garage. In this case you might be better off looking at insulated garage doors instead. If you are willing to keep up with the maintenance, wood garage doors can be a wonderful addition to the decor of any home.
