While doing research for a recent term paper my sister told me that in the early 1800’s, white bedroom furniture sets were intended as a sign of purity and holiness by the upper class in France and beyond. I knew this was the case with the traditional wedding dress; that the white color signified a clean and pure young woman about to be betrothed in wedded bliss. But I had no idea that this color significance moved on to other areas of day to day life as well. It turns out this particular furniture tradition didn’t get passed down through the ages, and today someone with white bedroom furniture is viewed as either someone really stylish, or not so much, depending on your personal tastes.
