What is the NCAA Clearinghouse?

Every time I coach a family through the college recruiting process they hear different things about the NCAA Clearinghouse.  Eventually, they end up asking me, “What exactly is the NCAA Clearinghouse?”  The NCAA Clearinghouse is defined as:

NCAA Clearinghouse registration certifies that a student-athlete has met certain academic standards to be eligible to play at the Division I or II level.  It is imperative that you are registered if you intend on participating at either level of competition.

The BEST time to register for the NCAA Clearinghouse is after your Junior year academically.  Preferably after you have signed up for the SAT and/or ACT.  You can always alert coaches of these scores at a later time.  It is important that you register for the Clearinghouse at the right time, so coaches know that you are eligible to play for them next season.
