A good dressing table will do a lot for a bedroom. It adds style and class, as well as making a great focal point for a girl to get ready and do some decorating. If you are considering purchasing a dressing table, either for yourself or for a younger girl, then make sure to consider a few points before making a purchase.
The dressing table mirror, if it comes with one, will draw the most attention of the table. Make the mirror look good, something that is pleasant to sit in front of and look into, and the table will succeed even if it has other flaws. Make sure it’s wide enough so you can see as much of yourself as you need to in order to get ready. It also needs to be at a comfortable height to sit in front of. If at all possible, try it out ahead of time. Sit in front of it, on a stool or some stacked storage boxes, and imagine yourself getting ready in front of it. Does it seem possible? Easy? Pleasant? Trust your gut on this one, because if you feel like you have to convince yourself to sit down, then you won’t get much use out of it.
You also need to make sure the dressing table is well-built. Check underneath it to look at the joints, and ensure that they are not loose and shaking at all. They should not be splintered at all – perhaps they are rebuilt, which isn’t a problem per se, but the repair needs to be sturdy too. If you have a friend familiar with woodwork ask them to look at it before you buy. If not, just make sure you’re not being pushed into buying something you don’t actually want.
A dressing table is a fantastic purchase, but needs to be done with some care. A bad table will, at best, go unused. Worst case, it could break shortly after purchase. Don’t let this spoil the present.
