Watering New Grass Seed – Hose or Sprinkler?

One of the most important things to insure when watering new grass seed is that it gets a fairly constant amount of consistent watering throughout every day.  Over watering, under watering, or a mixture of the two can be disastrous to new grass seed.  Probably the number one reason that newly planted grass seed is watered unevenly other than mother nature’s unpredictable rain showers is choosing to use a sprinkler system when watering.  Sprinkler systems are convenient as they don’t require the person to actually be present to water the lawn.  They are inconsistent and not appropriate for watering new grass seed, however, because they can not compensate for sunny and partly shady areas of your new lawn which require differing amounts of water in order to maintain the appropriate moisture levels.  If you want to get the most out of the grass seed you have planted, water by hand several times a day.  Babying your soon-to-be lawn is less time consuming than having to go back and replant the entire thing later.
