Votive candle are those used by individuals as a spiritual devotion or offering. They are most commonly seen in churches and other places of worship, sometimes in alters beside the road. A votive candle is made especially for the purpose and is usually placed in a special votive candle holder designed to contain the wax as it burns. The original candles were made of beeswax and generally last around 8 hours (the length of the night). The candle holders are usually glass. Today votive candles are very popular and come in a range of sizes, colors and designs. It is possible to match your candle holders to your decor and add scented candles to suit your mood. A display of different colored or even the same colored votives can be very effective in mood lighting.
