I use to hate mornings! I have always been more of a night person until this year. I have always looked at morning people with envy as they just seemed to get more accomplished in a day. You know the whole “I get more done before 9 am then you do all day.” Well, so I decided to start a new morning ritual.
There is a lot that I have added to that morning ritual in the course of a year, but the biggest benefit has been my morning walk. There are many benefits of morning walk but here is the number one for me.
Starting My Day With a Clear and Focused Mind
Walking in the early morning really alerts the senses and makes it so that you can think clearly about your day. As I walk, answers come to me about problems or difficulties that I am facing. Also, I hone in on what my two or three most important tasks are for me to accomplish that day. I end up so excited when I return back to my home office.
I am refreshed and rejuvenated about the day that lies ahead. So, I want to challenge you to give it a try for a few days. Allow yourself to slow down your morning pace a bit and get focused for the day. There is something about having focused intensity early in the morning that helps you to get stuff done.
Many of us have fallen into the trap of being multi-taskers. We mistakenly believe that the more we are doing at once the more productive we are. However, when you step back and look at the situation you are really only moving a lot of things one tiny step forward. I have sense learned that I should focus on the one thing that I can take the biggest leap forward on if I focus all my intensity on it.
Time in the morning to actually think about your day from a 20,000 foot view is so beneficial because otherwise you always feel zoomed in on life and overwhelmed. I now love my morning walk!
Oh, I almost forgot. I sleep much better now that I get up early. I am actually tired and ready to go to sleep. Not bad for a night owl!
