If you have a powerful dog, then you need to be able to control it. An English Bull Terrier harness is a harness specifically designed with that breed in mind.

It is much better than a standard lead and collar, because it gives you far more control.

There are a couple of problems owners face when trying to control an English Bull Terrier. First of all is the animal’s brute strength. Although not particularly large, these are strong, powerful dogs. But not only that, the shape of the bull terrier’s head (narrow) in relation to the width of it’s neck (wide & thick) makes it very easy for the dog to slip out of its collar and off the lead.

A harness prevents this from happening, so is highly recommended.

Size is all important for anyone considering buying a dog kennel.

The giant-sized Mastiff or Great Dane will need a much larger, stronger dog kennel than that required for a tiny Yorkshire terrier or Chihuahua.

And the dog who never sleeps anywhere but in his kennel outside, will probably need a much more expensive one than the dog who sleeps in a bed somewhere inside the house.

He will also benefit greatly from a run, atttached to his kennel… rather like the patio outside the living room of the house occupied by his owner. If he can get in an out of his kennel and still be secure and happy, then he will work better when called upon to herd farm animals, or guard the premises.

Kennel accessories

Working dogs are not normally pampered in the way indoor pets are. But there are still a few interesting kennel accessories on the market. He might enjoy having a portable (battery-operated) radio, to provide soothing music as he drifts off the sleep.

In the winter, a hot-water bottle (suitably covered to avoid scaulding him) will keep out the chill.

Also currently available is a strong, doggie tray that’s just large enough to accommodate his food and water bowls. Then Master Dog can have his meals served in comfort and style.

Elderly and disabled

The kennel with an ‘upstairs’ section might pose a problem for elderly and disabled dogs. Fortunately, the problem is not insurmountable.

A vast selection of ramps, steps, wheels and harnesses can be obtained quite reasonably.

Courses are also available for owners to give therapeutic massage and physiotherapy to arthritic limbs while the dog is lying down in his kennel.

Holiday homes for dogs

Holiday homes for dogs have come a long way since the idea started some years ago. Some of these establishments provide five-star kennels for their residents. Luxury bedrooms with all mod-cons, beauty parlours, gourmet food, swimming pools, and gardens in which to stroll at leisure.

They have beautifully-decorated rooms, complete with TV and fitted wardrobes in which to hang up collars, leads, harnesses, raincoats and anything else they may require during their stay.

For the dog-about-town, one hotel provides a webcam so that owners can watch himwhile they are apart…. or , with the right equipment, even talk to him on Skype?

How could any dog-owner not want to put his pet in luxury accommodation like this?

And how could any self-respecting dog not want to be such a pampered guest?

It’s not easy bringing a new dog to house in which a dog already lives in. No one knows how your dog will react. Usually it is easier when the dogs are the opposite sex. They are more willing to share their space and do not become very territorial. If the dogs are the same sex, the meeting is very difficult as the dogs become very territorial with each other. Usually you want the dogs to meet someone outside the home so it is not very territorial. Let them become friends and let them get used to seeing one another around. Once you get them to enjoy each others company, you start bringing them into the home and seeing how they react. Usually the dogs wont get along in the house at first, but with much training, it can be accomplished.

Dog treadmills are a great way to keep your dog fit when you aren’t able to get him or her outside to exercise. This can happen quite a lot and it is not fair to your dog. A dog treadmill provides you with a way to exercise your dog no matter what the weather or the situation. Now, of course you might wonder if your dog will actually want to use this thing. Well, it only takes a little bit of coaxing and then a bit of training, and you will find that you are able to really teach your dog to love it. Once your dog is familiar with it and has done some basic training, then he will love it and every time he wants a run he will be letting you know.

Dog costumes are one of the most delightful forms of dog clothing in the world. This variety of dog clothing is meant purely for fun, and serves little to no utility beyond having fun with your pet. While it’s possible fuzzier models may keep your dog warmer in certain situations, most dog costumes are not meant to serve this purpose. As dog clothes, dog costumes are possibly the most popular form of dog clothing out there.

Dog costumes come in a vast array of different styles and themes. Some of the most popular varieties are insects such as ladybugs and bees, food like pork chops, apples, and of course the Halloween pumpkin, and lastly the ever popular dinosaur. With so many styles to choose from, even the pickiest pet and owner can find a dog costu,e that suits them.
