Smoking and Life Insurance

You walk into the office of your soon to be life insurance broker for your first interview. He takes out the forms and begins asking you questions about your health and lifestyle. One of the first questions he is going to ask is, “Are you a smoker?” or, “Do you smoke regularly?”

Now, you have to answer truthfully if you expect any benefits to be paid in the event of your death. If the answer to the question is, “Yes,” then you can reasonably expect to end up paying higher life insurance premiums than you otherwise would have if you were not a smoker.

You may think this is unfair, but there is a mountain of scientific evidence supporting the fact that smoking leads to quite a few different medical conditions, as well as early death. So, in order to save money on life insurance and to preserve your continued health, it is important to stop smoking as soon as possible, as well as reduce the other life insurance risk factors.
