Most small compact refrigerators with around 2.3 cubic feet of storage capacity are often used as small beverage refrigerators. These are perfect for bars to hold a bulk of one particular type of drink or for the game room or living room where guest are frequently entertained. This provides beverages at a very convenient distance and is especially helpful when the kitchen or full sized refrigerator is inconveniently accessible. Beverages are consumed faster than regular food and that is why it is nice to have an additional, dedicated beverage refrigerator to free up space in the full sized refrigerator. Taken to the extreme, for those who do not own their own home or do not have the real estate for a full sized fridge, a small refrigerator can usually substitute the need for a regular refrigerator.
