There are many credit card debt settlement companies out there. You probably do not need to seek out there services unless you owe an incredible amount of money. I would say that if you owe more than fifteen grand, you should seek out some help. If you owe less than that, the savings that the company would make will probably be less than you will owe to pay for their services. If you are doing this on your own, be prepared for some negotiation with the collection company and ready to pay a lump sum of cash. If you have a good amount of money in the bank (from all the cash you saved by not paying your credit card!) you can offer that immediately to see if they accept it. This is the same thing that a company would do for you.
