Oil Pressure

Oil pressure is something  important to consider if you are trying to increase  the life of your internal combustion engine. With a forced lubrication system that was an invention of Frederick Lanchester, the oil will be picked up by a pump that will force the oil through  galleries or drillings into the  bearings that are the most highly stressed. This would include  the main bearings, as well as the big ends and the camshaft bearings.  Parts like the cylinder walls and cam lobes (as well as other components) are lubricated by the oil jets. An oil pressure gauge is often used to keep an eye on the oil pressure.  You can find both a digital oil pressure gauge as well as a mechanical oil pressure gauge, mainly depending on the age of the car.
