Measuring for Underlay

Measuring a room or house for installing carpet underlay is basically the same as measuring for carpet. You need to measure the width, then the length of the room. Multiply the length by the width which will give you the total area for the room. If you have any alcoves, weird shaped recesses or wardrobe areas, measure these separately, applying the same multiplication formula to find their individual area measurements.

You should be aiming to have as  few seams as possible, and try to avoid having them in the middle of the room or frequently used areas. If you can’t avoid putting an underlay seam in the middle of the room, try and choose a patterned carpet as this hides the seam substantially more than a plain colored carpet.
