Making peanut butter with a juicer machine

Everyone loves peanut butter. On toast, used in satay dishes, or eaten with vegetable sticks it makes a great snack for anytime of the day. Most of us buy it in jars from the store, or if you are health conscious, then maybe made on demand from health food shops. But have you ever tried making your own?

Making nut butters is really very easy. Any oily nuts will form a smooth paste if they are ground up without any additional ingredients. Peanuts work really well because they are quite oily, but cashews are good too.

One little know method of making these foods is by using a juicer machine. Now, a word of warning: not all juicers are created equal! What you need is a masticating juicer, so one of the sort that uses a slowly tuning set of gears or single auger to slowly crush stuff up – not the high speed kind that shreds up everything instantly.

Using a juicer might sound strange, but the reason masticating juicers are so good for this job is that they are designed to totally crush things – this is how they extract juice.

Probably the most famous juicer for this is the Angel juicer, known for being able to make not just nut butter but also press seed oils and make soy milk! If you are lucky enough to own one of these great machines then that is good, but any other sort of masticating juicer will be fine.

To process the nuts, check with your manual whether there are any special attachments or parts you should use – sometimes there will be an insert that covers the drain hole where juice would normally come out.

With this in place, all you need to do is slowly feed in raw nuts. Voila! You have fresh, healthy nut butter to enjoy any time you like!

Using a juicer to make nut butter is a lot of fun. Just remember to make sure that your machine is suitable before starting this. If you are considering buying a new model, then this might be a good time to look at the Angel Juicer, which as noted is probably the most versatile machine out there.
