When a Litigation Worker May Be Used in a Trial
There are many reasons why a litigation worker may be called upon in a trial. They could be a forensic document expert for example who specialises in fraudulent handwriting. If the case was a fraud case, the support worker could be used as an expert witness to say why the handwriting is fraudulent and how they came to that conclusion. They could be a fraud investigator or forensic accountant. They still have to research and put together their evidence, but then they also have to stand up in court and talk about their findings. What they say could potentially alter the verdict of the case.
That is why litigation services are often quite expensive. Most litigation workers have degrees in their field of expertise. However this is not a major requirement as long as the candidate has adequate experience.
Usually only one litigation support worker will be used in this way. However, this will depend entirely upon the case. Sometimes it is necessary for a lawyer to hire more than one worker to conduct and report various findings. The fees of the litigation support team will not be cheap and so that will also be taken into account. If a client cannot afford it, litigation services will not always be used.
