Because VOIP has become such a popular (and, for the most part, reliable) service, a lot of people don’t even realize how VOIP works. There’s a lot that actually goes into the VOIP technology that is very new and innovative. We’ve been overloaded with the terms digital and analog for years now with home entertainment such as VHS-DVD, analog-digital cable and television signals, well VOIP is a somewhat similar conversion of your old analog telephone service to a new and improved digital one. And we all know that when something is “new and improved” it is always better.
To break it down VOIP basically takes your old analog phone and with a VOIP Adapter or ATA or a phone specifically made for VOIP and it converts your analog speech through the phone to a digital signal that travels through the internet. It sounds simple but is a breakthrough that’s changing phone service and bringing it into the 21st century.
