There are few things as rewarding as making your home appear like the castle you’ve always wanted. To this end, there are ways of making your home look great for the kind of budget that anyone can appreciate. In times like these, people are always looking for great ways to make a change in their home that they can do themselves. Sure, hiring a professional is a great idea and if your budget has room for them, then you should definitely consider this option. Not only will they have a better eye and judge of what will work and what will look awkward in your home, they also have access to discounts. The professional interior designer works with furniture manufacturers to be able to offer you a better rate on those items that have big markups for the retail environment.
What we are talking about here are more home decorating and refreshing projects that you might consider more like a home makeover rather than a remodel. The entire home makeover market has had huge successes and made big strides in terms of homeowner involvement and excitement as the boom in television shows have exploded. You can find any number of shows on HGTV, PBS or the larger networks like the Extreme Home Makeover show. Granted, some of these shows are working with either unlimited budgets for the most part or are having sponsors donate most if not all of the materials. When we are talking about simple ways to improve your home’s looks, these shows are a bit on the extreme.
So, let’s talk about a couple of easy ways to get your home remodeling projects going with not too much pressure on your budget. Some of these things we can discuss are paint and lighting. In terms of paint, this is one of those cheap and easy ways of making quick changes. You’ve heard it before but paint is the magic solution to a dull room. If you just can’t seem to figure out what to do, start with a fresh coat of paint and go on from there. There are many non-toxic and low volatile organic compound (VOC) paints that can keep your house from smelling and your health from suffering.
Another option is to address your lighting. Your home’s interior lighting can dramatically affect what your rooms and walls look like. In fact, new lighting can even affect what color your room appears to be. So, if you don’t want to commit to any paint colors yet, you can change your lighting first. Lighting is more expensive than paint, however, so it is a trade off. You can try going with dimmers first and see how this goes. Dimmer switches are relatively inexpensive and can really enhance the ambiance in a room. This all while saving you money on electricity as well. Good for you, your home and the environment, now that is a real home makeover.
