Those who have the skills and tools to own and operate their own small handyman businesses will usually survive in any economy. Homeowners will always need repairs done, and many people do not have the knowledge, or the necessary tools to complete even simple fixes around their home.
Being your own boss can be very rewarding, however you must be self-disciplined, as well. You are the one who must get up in the morning, make your schedule, and get to your appointments on time. You will probably be the one who handles all the paperwork for you small business, also. That means keeping copies of expense records, income receipts, even the gas you put in your truck and your phone bill is a record that will be important at tax time, so get a file box, and begin right away keeping good records.
