There are all kinds of product that claim they will get your hair growing again. Most of them don’t have a hope of ever doing anything about hair loss. There have only been two drugs which have been approved by the FDA to actually say they help with hair loss problems. There are not too many others that have any positive affect.
The two hair loss products are finasteride and minoxidil. Both of these drugs were originally developed to treat a problem of than hair loss. The interesting thing is while clinical trials were going on for both these drugs the men in the studies saw improvements in their balding situations. This was completely unexpected for both drugs.
Now that the mechanism which causes male pattern baldness is understood it is really quite simple. Finasteride limits the amount of DHT in the blood stream. DHT blocks blood flow to the hair follicle. Minoxidil dilates blood vessels which again gets more oxygen and nutrients to the follicle. It makes perfect sense now.
