When I went looking for a combination land and marine GPS device the first thing that I considered was how dependable my chosen GPS gadget would be on the water.
It’s one thing to get lost on a back road somewhere, but it’s quite another thing to be lost where all you can see is water for miles around.
After researching several different marine GPS systems, I finally decided on the Garmin GPSmap 478 GPS Receiver. The unit works great on the boat and in the car.
The screen is very extremely easy to read and is even easy to see at night in a rocking boat. Already in the system were the markers, buoys, and harbors that I needed.
It has tons of features, so it takes a little bit of practice to learn how to navigate using the various menu, page and find buttons, but you could say that it is smooth sailing from then on.
If you’re an avid geocacher, one that like to take a challenge, you can depend on the Garmin GPSmap 478 to lead you right to the cache even if it has been placed on an off shore island.
