Debt settlement and the IRS can be a tricky and confusing path to take. They are very stingy and selective as to who they give discounted settlements to. Only a small percentage of those who apply for debt forgiveness (Offer In Compromise) are actually approved. They do have other options for settling your tax debt, but these options do not save you any kind of money and you will have to pay everything back. They have options that allow you to pay your tax debt in monthly installments, or allow them to garnish your wages for a specified amount of time. They really want your money and will stop at no lengths to get it from you. If you can figure out a way to work with them to get them their money, they will be much more forgiving.
