Choosing Ultralight Fishing Tackle

Just like any kind of fishing, ultralight fishing demands the correct tackle choices in order to perform at it’s best. Different ultralight fishing species demand different equipment, and mismatching equipment and sport fish can lead to a broken line, or even a broken fishing rod! Always consider the general size of the fish you will be pursuing, then choose your ultralight fishing tackle accordingly.

One of the great things about ultralight fishing is the flexibility in the equipment. A quality, six foot ultralight fishing rod can handle sport fish from bass and panfish, to even perch and trout! This can be a great boon when multi-species fishing, as the same rod can function for all sport fish available. Be aware however, if you rod is on the lighter side a trophy fish could be a bit too much to handle. Try and have a normal style fishing rod on hand for these situations.
