It is very important to treat acne as soon as symptoms appear. Failure to do so could mean problems with acne scars which are permanent unless cosmetic procedures are carried out.

There are several different acne treatments available, and the choice of treatment will depend on the severity of the acne. Some of them are available to buy over-the-counter, whereas others will need to be prescribed by a doctor.

Over-The-Counter Treatments

Less severe acne can be treated with over-the-counter products such as cleansers, benzoyl peroxide or natural products such as tea tree oil and green tea.

Prescription Treatments

More severe forms of acne can be tackled with products which have been prescribed by a doctor. These products include antibiotics to be applied to the skin and retinoids, also for topical use. Oral treatments such as oral antibiotics or isotretinoin may also be prescribed.

If you are left with acne scars, there are treatments available. Visit the author’s site to find out how to get rid of acne scarring.
